A new pack, three ways
There are three ways to create a new pack in Knoword:
- 🥚 Start from scratch: Manually create an empty pack and add your own words and clues.
- 🐣 Get a head start with AI: Generate a pack based on a custom prompt. Add more words or make changes as necessary.
- 🐥 Duplicate a pack: Copy an existing pack and edit it to fit your needs.
Let’s take a look at each of these options.
Create a pack manually
Starting from scratch gives you full control over the content of your pack. This is a great option if you want to build a highly specific word set or structure your vocabulary list in a certain way.
To create a new pack:
- Click the Create button in the top-right corner of any page.
- Select “Create a pack.”
- A dialog box will appear with several fields to fill out:
- Pack title: Give your pack a name that reflects its content.
- Collection: If your pack belongs in a group with other related packs, you can assign it to a collection or create a new one.
- Category: Choose a subject category to make it easier for others to find.
- Language: Select a language if your pack is language-specific.
- Pack privacy: Checking “Hide this pack from public listings” will prevent your pack from appearing in search results, browse pages, and collections.
- After filling out the details, click “Create pack.” You can always edit these details later.
Once your pack is created, you’ll be taken to the pack editor, where you can start adding words. If you ever need to update the pack details, click the “Edit details” button near the top right corner of the pack editor page.
Generate a pack with AI
If you want a quick way to get started, you can generate a pack using AI. This method allows you to create a set of terms and clues based on a topic of your choice.
- Click the Create button in the top-right corner of any page.
- Select “Generate a pack.”
- Enter a prompt describing the topic of your pack. Be as specific as possible—mention details like reading level, tone, or style for the best results.
- Click “Generate pack.”
After a few seconds, your pack will be created and ready for review. You’ll be taken to the pack editor, where you can refine the generated words, edit details, or add new terms.

Duplicate a pack
If you find a pack that’s close to what you need but requires some changes, you can duplicate it and make your own edits. You can duplicate your own packs or any pack made by someone else.
- Find the pack you want to duplicate.
- Open the pack actions menu (three dots in the top-right corner of the pack card).
- Select “Duplicate.”
- A dialog will appear with the same form fields used for manual creation, with some fields pre-filled. You can change any of these pack details.
- Click “Duplicate pack.”
Once your new pack is created, you’ll be taken to the pack editor, where you can modify the pack and make it your own.
Editing a pack
If you ever want to update a pack after creating it, you can access it from the My Packs page.
- Click on your user menu in the top-right corner of any page.
- Select “My Packs.”
- Find the pack you want to edit and open the pack actions menu (three dots).
- Select “Edit.”
This will take you back to the pack editor, where you can update the details, add or remove words, and refine the pack however you like.
Adding a cover image
To make your pack stand out, you can add a cover image, which will appear at the top of the pack card. A well-chosen image makes your pack more visually recognizable and adds a fun pop of color.
You can add or change the cover image at any time:
- Open the pack editor page for any of your packs.
- Click the “Add cover image” or “Update cover image” button near the top-right corner of the page.
- A dialog will appear with two tabs:
- Upload an image: Drag and drop an image or click to browse your files.
- Generate an image: Generate a cover image based on your pack’s topic in one click. ✨
- Select an accent color based on the colors in your image.
- Click “Save image” to apply the cover to your pack.
What’s next?
