Audio Improvements
Since we first launched audio clues back in May, we’ve received some great feedback and noticed a few areas where we could improve the experience. Today, we’re excited to release a number of updates that make working with audio in Knoword easier and better than ever.
Text-to-speech voice previews
When you generate audio clues using our text-to-speech feature, you have six unique voices to choose from. Previously, you had to generate the speech to hear what each voice sounded like, which made it tedious to choose the one that was right for your clue.
Now, you can simply click the play button beside each voice’s name to hear a short preview. This lets you quickly and easily find the perfect voice for your content. We also gave our voices more human-sounding names to make them easier to remember:
- Aura is now Alex
- Aster is now Jude
- Celeste is now Riley
- Lumin is now Sam
- Orion is now Sidney
- Zenith is now Wren
Seamless audio clue iteration
Sometimes you need to make a quick change after you’ve already configured an audio clue. Previously, if you went back from the preview screen, your text and voice selections would be cleared.
Now, when you go back from the preview step, your original text and voice selections are maintained. This means you can easily go back and forth between the preview and the configuration screen to get your audio clues just right.
Playable audio clues in pack preview
The pack preview feature is a great way to see all the terms and clues in a pack before you play it or share it with your class. In the past, if a term had an audio clue, the preview window would show an empty space. This made it difficult to fully vet the content and ensure it was right for your needs.
Now, you can preview the audio clues directly within the pack preview window, making it easier to decide if a pack is appropriate for your students or your own studies.

Bug fixes
We also took the opportunity to squash a couple of bugs:
-
We fixed a bug that prevented audio clues from being included in duplicated packs. Now when you duplicate a pack, all of its audio clues will come with it.
-
A user playing our new Top 50 Songs of 2025 pack pointed out an issue in pairs mode. When they played a second audio clue before the first one finished, both clips would play at the same time. This was confusing and disorienting.
We’ve changed this so that only one audio clue plays at a time. When you start a new audio clue, it will automatically pause any other audio that is currently playing.
We hope these updates make working with audio a much smoother experience. As always, we appreciate your feedback, so let us know what you think!
