How to play Knoword
Knoword is a word guessing game where you’re given a clue and have to come up with the correct word.
In the classic game mode, the rules are simple:
- You’ll see a clue—usually a definition—along with the first letter of the word.
- Start typing your answer. If you get it right, the game moves on to the next word automatically.
- If you don’t know the answer, you can skip to the next word with no penalty.
- The game continues like this until the timer runs out.
- Each correct answer adds extra time, so the more words you answer correctly, the longer you can keep going.
Knoword also offers a multiple-choice mode, where you see a clue and pick the correct answer from three options.
Quick play mode
Quick play is the fastest way to jump into a game. It includes a wide variety of words from different topics, making it perfect for a casual challenge.
Difficulty levels
Quick play mode has five difficulty levels:
- Junior: See a word and choose the matching image from three options. This mode is best for young players or emerging readers.
- Basic: See a definition and choose the correct word from three options. The words are simple, but this mode introduces more reading.
- Intermediate: See a definition and the first letter of the word. You have to type the correct word. The words are common but slightly more challenging than those in Basic.
- Advanced: Same format as Intermediate but with more challenging words.
- Expert: Same format as Intermediate and Advanced, but with very uncommon words.
Customizing the game
Quick play is great for a casual brain teaser or soft start, but what if you want the words in the game to match a specific topic or theme? Whether you’re a teacher looking to reinforce key vocabulary terms, a student trying to brush up before a test, or you’re in the mood for a fun trivia game with friends, Knoword has you covered.
