We believe the best way to stay excited about a learning tool is to feel like you’re building toward something and have the ability to make it your own. That’s why we’re excited to introduce sprites, little unlockable characters that live in your game’s UI and cheer you on as you play.

So, let’s meet the gang! We’re launching with a trio of sprites who you may have noticed if you’ve spent some time around the website before.

Everybody will start with Cosmo by default, but if you want to add Warne or Atlas to your team, you’ll have to unlock them using points you earn in-game. You can unlock sprites and change your selected sprite from the new skins menu on the pre-game screen of any pack, assignment, or quick play mode.

How did we get here?

We believe this addition makes the game feel more delightful and interesting for students. It’s another way to make Knoword their own and express themselves as they play through games, learn new things, and ultimately succeed in their learning adventure, wherever that takes them.

The idea for sprites was sparked from some feedback we received from a student last year:

I think it’s good so far but I think you should add some characters and a shop where you have to use your points to pay for it. Oh and make there be clothes, accessories, backgrounds, etc.

Back in June, we took the first step towards realizing this vision by releasing themes, offering unique color schemes and backgrounds that players can unlock using their points. Now, sprites are the next piece of this puzzle.

As part of today’s release, we’re also introducing two brand-new dark themes available to unlock:

Reboot theme

Darkroom theme

You can preview and unlock these themes in the same skins menu we mentioned earlier.

That’s a wrap on our summer update
