Play + Points = Personalization
If you’ve played Knoword before, you know that you earn points for each correct answer. For a long time now, these points have been a way to measure your performance in an individual game. They didn’t really do anything beyond that.
Over the past few years, we’ve heard from many of our players that they’d love for these points to have a purpose. We’ve received feedback like:
what do the points do?
can you make the points currency that you collect
I think its good so far but I think you should add some characters and a shop where you have to use your points to pay for it. Oh and make there be clothes, accessories, backgrounds, etc.
Maybe add little characters so when you get enough points you can buy a little pack with a character in there, I feel like that would make it more fun
Today, we’re happy to announce that the points finally do something!
Introducing themes 🎨
Now, when you play Knoword while logged in, the points you earn in a game are automatically saved to your account.You can use these saved points to unlock special themes that change the look of your game.
Themes give your game a new color scheme and a stylish, colorful background, making your game UI truly your own.
We’re kicking off this exciting new feature with four unique themes, ready for you to unlock:
- 🐟 Aqualight: A green-blue theme inspired by serene lake views
- 🩷 Sweetheart: A fun, poppy, pink theme with hearts and cotton candy
- ☁️ Skyward: Blue like the sky on a perfect summer day
- 🌄 Ember Glow: Golden sands and sunset hues make this theme shine
How to change your theme
Ready to switch things up? Changing your theme is super easy!
Just open the settings menu at the start of any game, pack, or assignment. On the right side of the menu (or at the bottom if you’re on a mobile device), you’ll see a section titled “Themes.” To the right of that title, you’ll see your current points balance.
Below that, you’ll find a selection of themes to choose from.
Everyone has access to the default light and dark themes, but the other special themes can be unlocked by spending the points you earn from playing games. Click on one of the locked themes to open a dialog box. From there, you can unlock it if you have enough points, or see how many more points you need before you can claim it.
A head start for long-time players
For those of you who’ve been with us for a while, we haven’t forgotten you. 🫡 We’ve gone ahead and backfilled your points, so you’re not starting from scratch. If you’ve played a lot of games in the past, you might even have enough points to unlock your first theme right now!

This is just the beginning of what we have planned for points and personalization! Over the summer, we’ll be adding even more themes and different unlockables, so stay tuned for more on this.
