The Holiday Highlight Reel

⚙️ Update
December 19th, 2025

As classrooms head into the holiday break next week, we’re wrapping up the 2025 school year with one final update. This month, we’ve been busy working on features to help you save money, organize your content, and keep your students engaged.

Here’s a roundup of everything we shipped in December.

Contents

Two ways to save on your Knoword bill

We want to make Knoword Pro as accessible as possible for educators. This month, we’ve introduced two simple ways to earn credits toward your subscription:

Real-time assignment tracking

Accuracy is key when tracking student progress. Previously, there was no clear way to distinguish between assignments that were truly “in progress” and those where a student had simply quit out (such as closing the tab or browser).

We’ve updated our tracking to help you differentiate between active and abandoned games, giving you a clearer picture of who’s doing what.

Multiple choice worksheets

Our printable worksheets just got an upgrade. Previously, worksheets were strictly fill-in-the-blank exercises where students had to write out the answers.

Now, we offer a multiple choice format for worksheets. This allows students to read the clue and circle or highlight the correct answer, providing a different way to test their knowledge without the focus on spelling or recall.

Printable answer sheets

To go along with our worksheets and word searches, you can now download dedicated answer sheets. These make it much faster and easier to mark your students’ printable exercises, saving you time on manual grading.

Tidy up duplicate words

If you’ve ever accidentally added the same word to a pack twice, you know it can be a hassle to track them down. Now, whenever you’re editing a pack with duplicate terms, a Tidy up button will appear on the right side of the filter input near the top of the page.

Clicking this button opens a dialog that lets you decide which words you want to keep and which to discard. Don’t worry, removed words remain in your personal word bank, so you can easily re-add them if you make a mistake.

New pack: Owl Sounds

This week, I listened to the Owls episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Ologies. Listening to the guest, R.J. Gutierrez, talk about the different calls and sounds that owls make, I felt inspired to build a pack to help learn how to identify them.

Using resources from The Owl Pages and a collection of owl sounds from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I’ve put together a new challenge.

Try out Owl Sounds if you want to get better at identifying the noises you might hear in the woods at night. 🦉

From all of us here at Knoword, have a wonderful and restful holiday break. We’ll see you in the new year! 👋
