Knoword

Word Searches

⚙️ Update
November 5th, 2025

At Knoword, one of our main goals is to lighten the workload of teachers. We know how much time goes into prepping materials, and we believe that once you’ve done the hard work of creating a great vocabulary list, that list should work for you in plenty of different ways. To put it simply:

Build a pack one time, and get multiple unique learning activities out of it.

You already use Knoword to transform your content into online word games with different game modes and rules to keep things feeling fresh. You might even use our free worksheets and physical flashcards for vocabulary practice away from the screen.

Today, we’re adding another fun activity to the mix with printable word searches!

How it works

You can download and print custom word search puzzles using any pack on the website.

  1. Select the Print option from any pack’s actions menu
  2. Choose Word search from the Document type dropdown in the settings panel
  3. Configure the size and difficulty of your word search
  4. Download and print! 🖨️

Configuration

With Knoword, you have full control over the size and difficulty of your word search. You can customize the puzzle using these settings:

Puzzle ID

Every word search generated by Knoword is unique and random, but completely reproducible.

How do we do this? With the Puzzle ID.

You can find the Puzzle ID in the bottom right corner of every word search. If you use that number in the Puzzle ID field in the word search settings panel, the exact same word search will be generated, provided the contents of the pack used to create it didn’t change between generations. This is useful if you want to make more copies of the same word search, ensuring that all of your students are on the same page (literally).

You can also change the Puzzle ID to scramble word selections and placements until you find the exact layout you want to print.

It’s the same old story

Once again, this idea came directly from a conversation with a teacher at a conference. Anyone else noticing a trend here?

We’re trying our best to make Knoword your one-stop shop for vocabulary exercises and study games. There’s no need to visit one site for online games, another for flashcards, and a separate word search generator to turn it into a pen-and-paper activity. I’ll say it again for the people in the back:

Build a pack one time, and get multiple unique learning activities out of it.

That’s the Knoword way.

Are there any other printable activities you currently use other sites to create? If so, please do tell.
