We’ve got some big news, Knoword fans! Today, we’re rolling out an update that brings a brand-new game mode and a redesigned pre-game screen. Let’s dive into what’s new and why we’re so excited about these changes.

Meet Puzzle mode 👋

Say hello to our newest addition: Puzzle mode! This game mode takes inspiration from classic word games like crossword puzzles, Wordle, Scrabble, and Bananagrams, offering you a familiar yet exciting way to play.

Here’s how it works:

• You’ll still get a clue and the first letter of the word, but now, you’ll see a series of empty boxes that represent the word you’re solving.
• These boxes show the number of letters (and, for multi-word answers, the number of words in the response).
• You don’t need to worry about typing spaces or punctuation—we’ve got you covered!
• If you make a mistake, the incorrect letters will turn red, giving you instant feedback and helping you adjust your guesses.

In the old game UI, you’d rely on a green progress bar to see if you were on the right track. While we loved its simplicity, we realized that many players missed or didn’t fully understand this feedback system. Puzzle mode makes it easier than ever to see where you stand and keeps the focus on solving the word.

A fresh look for the pre-game screen

With Puzzle mode joining the lineup, we decided it was time to revamp the pre-game screen. Previously, you’d have to scroll through game modes one by one to see all the options—hardly ideal! Now, all available game modes are displayed front and center, making it easy to pick your favorite and get started.

We’ve also added a new setting: the option to show or hide the first letter of each word. If you’re looking for an extra challenge, try hiding the first letter and take your word-solving skills to the next level!

This change is rolling out for all pack games first so we can fine-tune everything and gather your feedback. Quick play and assignments will get the new UI once we’ve worked out all the kinks.

Classic mode is here to stay

If you’re a fan of the original Knoword experience, don’t worry—Classic mode isn’t going anywhere! You’ll find it in the game settings menu on the updated pre-game screen, ready for when you’re in the mood for that old-school typing thrill.
